Pinot Gris

The vineyards of Monterey are defined by persistent ocean winds that are funneled down a 90-mile-long valley that runs north to south between the Santa Lucia and Gabilan Mountains. These strong winds combine with abundant sun and scare rainfall to give this wine region one of the longest, coolest growing seasons in California. The coolest vineyards are at the northernmost tip of the valley, where Pinot Gris develops a natural juicy palate filled with complex flavors and a noticeable minerality typical of the region. The 2012 vintage in Monterey was ideal for growers and winemakers alike. Relatively mild conditions allowed the grapes to ripen slowly and evenly, developing concentration and lush fruit character that are hallmarks of extended hang time on the vine. Monterey Pinot Gris in particular benefitted from this additional time to mature, while still retaining its naturally juicy acidity and freshness. This release is bright and balanced, with fresh stonefruit, citrus and floral aromas over a palate rich with ripe pear, yellow plum and tropical notes.

"Bright and balanced, this wine opens with aromas of fresh white peach, Meyer lemon and subtle floral hints. The lush palate is layered with flavors of ripe pear, yellow plum, baking spice and exotic tropical notes. Mineral undertones are evident in the lengthy finish, further defining this wine as classic Monterey."
